While Speculation Press prints and distributes trade-sized paperback books, we will occasionally have short stories and novels available for free from our web site. Some of these short stories and novels will relate to our books, some will not. They will all be complete in themselves.

These stories are free, however, all copyright remains the author's property. You can read the two short stories online. The novels can be downloaded.

If the short stories are copied and forwarded, you must list the author's name. I also ask that for the novels, you send your friends the url from the Speculation Press web site instead of the book.

If you haven't read the first two books, not to worry, the story line is easy to pick up as you read the book, but if you want some background on the series. The Honor and Treason universe is set about 600 years in the future when humanity has colonized the stars. An interstellar war a hundred years previous to the beginning of the series nearly destroyed humanity and did destroy Earth. Now humans are again among the stars and have come up against the Norda, an immortal race of humanoid aliens that focuses its genetic breeding on function-defined classes,
specifically the scientists, called Yseret, and the warriors, called Hsassan. The Yserets rule the Norda Homelands after the Wars of Unification that were won by the genetically engineered warriors the scientists had bred. The Yserets had spent millenia trying to create a new type of Hsassan, a genetic Messiah. They finally succeeded in Hsassan called Zsar't'lac. But the end result wasn't exactly as they
envisioned. Zsar't'lac is no tame puppet of Yseret. He has refused to breed a new and superior race of Hsassan and he will not lead the war against the humans. In book 1, OF HONOR AND TREASON, he defects to the human lands.

Eivaunee Dorlan is the last of the Dorlan family. The richest man in three Empires, his parents were both killed by the half-mad Emperor who rules the Klimar Empire. His father was killed when an assassin blew up the ship he commanded; his mother committed suicide after being brutally raped by the Emperor. The Emperor also has dreams of interstellar conquest. If he can gain control of the Dorlan wealth, he can build the ships to invade the Norda Homelands. Eivaunee's father, Tamsek, found a
way around the shields that keep the Imperial Palace safe, but that was why his ship was destroyed. As the ship was breaking up around him, Tamsek sent a message to Seriie Realt, a long time friend and sometime lover, explaining where to look for the information that would allow the half-mad emperor to be overthrown. The destruction of the ship caused the message to only partially get through.

Zsar't'lac officially serves Eivaunee as they both try to keep their respective empires from going to war.

I would ask that if you want to your friends to read this book as well, please send them the url for this web page, not the full text. If the series is going to continue we need to prove that people are interested and the best way is by hits on the web site! You can also buy the first two books in the series (OF HONOR AND TREASON and OF DUTY AND DEATH) directly from us or through Amazon.com or by ordering them at your local bookstore. Thank you!
